The diamond search area at Crater of Diamonds State Park is a good place to find many birthstones, most notably diamonds—the birthstone for April—but also peridot and spinel, which are birthstones for August.

For Will and Marshall Barnett, of Buckeye, AZ, a recent father-and-son trip to Arkansas’ famous Crater of Diamonds State Park resulted in the story of a lifetime and the second-largest diamond registered so far this year.

Greetings from Crater of Diamonds State Park! A few weeks ago, a large cavity was uncovered on the north side of the diamond search area after some dirt work by park maintenance. Local visitors coined this hole the Crater of Diamonds sinkhole. However, the term “sinkhole” is a bit misleading regarding its origin.

The crater is famous for diamonds, but many others rocks and minerals can be found here, too. Amethyst, spinel, peridot and garnet are just a few of the unique minerals guests can dig up and keep.

This event will be unique and spectacular, bringing along with it several “phenomena” that viewers should be aware to look for before, during, and after totality.

Looking forward to warmer weather and school breaks, families from all over the country are planning spring break trips, and several will choose to spend time at the world-famous Crater of Diamonds State Park.

On Monday, April 8, Arkansas will be center stage for the 2024 Great North American Eclipse, and Crater of Diamonds State Park will be one of the state’s premier locations to experience the event. The eclipse will begin at 12:30 p.m. and end at 3:08 p.m., with complete totality from 1:47 p.m. to 1:51 p.m.

On Thursday, January 11, Julien Navas, of Paris, France, visited Arkansas’ Crater of Diamonds State Park for the first time. While there, he found a 7.46-carat diamond on the surface of the park’s 37.5-acre search area.

Jerry Evans, of Lepanto, visited Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro this spring, but only recently learned that he had discovered a 4.87-carat diamond.
