Winter Workshop Series - Stargazing 101

Meeting Place: Petit Jean's Gravesite Overlook
Admission: Free

Join a park interpreter for a special evening under the stars at Petit Jean State Park. November is one of the best months for stargazing, with crisp air and longer nights revealing some of the brightest constellations of the year. We’ll begin with a guided tour of the night sky—learning how to spot Orion the Hunter, Taurus the Bull, the Pleiades star cluster, and more. You’ll also hear the legends and stories behind these constellations and get tips on how to use a star chart to continue exploring on your own. If the night is clear, we may even catch a few meteors from the Leonids meteor shower!

Bring a blanket or lawn chair for comfortable viewing, and don’t forget warm layers for the chilly night air. This program will last about one and a half hours and take place at Stout’s Point, one of the park’s best overlooks for enjoying the night sky. This program is free, but sign up is required by the Wednesday before the event by calling the visitor center at (501) 727-5441 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
