Sensory Sunday

Meeting Place: Museum
1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
All Admission: Free

Plantation Agriculture Museum is committed to creating an inclusive and educational experience for all visitors, including those with autism and other sensory sensitivities, for whom a typical trip to the museum can be much more challenging. To better serve those visitors and their families, the museum is presenting Sensory Sunday, a time when the museum and staff will take special care to create an environment that is sensitive to their sensory needs. Loud noises will be limited and lights lowered in the museum to reduce sensory input. During Sensory Sunday, there will be no video presentations or cotton ginning demonstrations offered. Instead, self-guided activities meant to engage the senses will be available throughout the museum.

A designated calm-down space will be available upon request for visitors who may become overwhelmed during their visit. A limited number of sensory bags are available to be signed out at the front desk and are equipped with earplugs, fidget tools and communication assistance cards. In addition to Sensory Sunday, these sensory bags are available at the museum during all visiting hours.
