Mellwood: From Railroad Depot to Trailhead

Meeting Place: Visitor Center
9:00 am - 10:45 am
Admission: Free
Mellwood was born with the establishment of the former rail line, and its depot location has been reborn as a Delta Heritage Trail State Park trailhead. This is your chance to discover the community’s heritage as a railroad hub, survival from many floods, and transformation of the rail line into Delta Heritage Trail State Park. We will meet at the visitor center and then caravan in your personal vehicles to Mellwood for a guided hike on a gravel surface trail covering 0.5-mile lasting 45 minutes with a park interpreter. Please bring drinking water, sunscreen and insect repellent. Dress to be outdoors and wear footwear you are comfortable hiking in. Registration is required by calling the park at (870) 572-2352.
