Greetings from Crater of Diamonds State Park! With warmer weather and frequent rain showers, spring can be one of the most exciting times to visit the Crater of Diamonds. Spring and summer seasons bring travelers from all over the world. When planning a trip to the park, it is important to keep transportation in mind!
Crater of Diamonds State Park is located in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, in the southwest corner of the state. Murfreesboro is about one hour from the Texarkana Regional Airport and two hours from the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock. Murfreesboro is a quaint town of about 1,500 people, finding public transportation to and from the park can be a challenge.
If flying in to visit the Crater of Diamonds, the recommended way to get around is to rent a car and drive from the airport. While rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are efficient for getting around urban centers, they often do not have drivers available in rural areas.
Having a rental car will also enable you to travel around Murfreesboro and visit other towns and nearby attractions during your stay. Many local lodging and dining options are two to three miles from the park, which can feel unwalkable after a long day of digging for diamonds!
If car rental is not an option for you, booking a car service from the city you are flying into might be another solution. When booking the service, be sure to confirm that they can drop you off and pick you back up in Murfreesboro. Having a confirmed pickup location is key! If you use this option, we recommend camping at the park and bringing enough food and water for your entire stay, as there is no public transportation into town. Remember that digging for diamonds can be a strenuous activity, so you might need more food and hydrating drinks than you would normally pack.
We hope you’ll find this information helpful as you make travel plans to Crater of Diamonds State Park. Diamond searching can be an exciting and rewarding experience with proper preparation.
