Bernard de la Harpe makes the first recorded journey up the Arkansas River. He was possibly the first European to see Mount Magazine.
1815
The area of present day Davidsonville Historic State Park was selected to "establish the permanent seat of justice," becoming the first planned city west of the Mississippi River.
1817
The Cherokee Nation receives a title to the land that is now Lake Dardanelle State Park in a treaty with the United States government.
1820
Reverend William Stevenson establishes Ebenezer Campground at present day Historic Washington State Park.
1822
The first steamboat to reach as far as present day Lake Dardanelle State Park, "Eagle," brings supplies for Dwight Mission, the first school established for the Cherokee Tribe west of the Mississippi.
1832
Cherokee Indians pass by Petit Jean Mountain while traveling the Trail of Tears.
1836
Arkansas is admitted to the Union on June 15 as the 25th state.
1845
The first white settlers arrive on Petit Jean Mountain. John Walker builds a log cabin on Lake Bailey which would later be restored by the CCC, and may be seen at the Cedar Creek Trailhead.
