Special Notice

July 10, 2017:
Lake Poinsett State Park is open for camping, hiking, and use of our day use areas. The park is still selling bait and open for interpretive programs and school groups. However, AGFC is draining Lake Poinsett to repair the water control structure, erosion control, and for installation of new fishing habitats. The lake should be fully drained by September. While the lake is drained, guests at Lake Poinsett State Park will be allowed to access the lake at their own risk. Once the lake is dry visitors to the lake should refrain from accessing the lake bed. We also ask that guests please be vigilant and maintain a safe distance away from the construction going on around the lake. We expect the lake should begin to refill naturally by 2020. The lake will be a great fishing mecca again, but it may take some time. Following the renovations, we expect Lake Poinsett to have excellent productivity and strong fisheries for many years. Please call the park directly for updates: 1-870-578-2064.
