Louisiana Purchase State Park First Day Hike

Start 2026 off by journeying to 1815 with a park interpreter on an easy 0.5-mile First Day Hike. We will meet at the parking lot and then go out into a headwater swamp on a barrier free elevated boardwalk to a granite monument commemorating the creation of the first initial point for surveying lands the United States acquired in the Louisiana Purchase. The route takes you past water tupelo and bald cypress trees and the landscape feels like it did when the surveyors were here in 1815. Dress to be outdoors in the cold and bring footwear you are comfortable hiking in. Please bring drinking water, sunscreen, and insect repellent. #FirstDayHikes
