Heart Healthy Heart Healthy Event

Historic Powhatan School of the Lady

PLEASE NOTE: This is an event that requires attendance on all days listed.
Meeting Place: Powhatan Courthouse
Registration: $125.00

The Historic Powhatan School of the Lady is a school for ladies interested in reenacting the 19th century. In two and a half days, it covers subjects that engage all levels of living history, from beginners to masters. We aim to teach participants about all aspects of life that pertain to 19th century women including etiquette, sewing techniques, cooking, history, music, personal hygiene and more. For the best experience, we encourage you to stay with us at the park through period camping or by staying in one of our historic buildings. If you prefer to stay off-site, there are several hotels within a 30-mile radius, and Lake Charles State Park offers modern camping just 3 miles away. Programs this year include how to develop a living history character, how to wear a corset, making band boxes, and making cuffs and collars. Registration for the event is required. Registration closes April 1. All meals and workshop materials are provided as part of registration. For more information about this living history event, including pricing, please contact: Zachary Elledge, Park Interpreter, or Jeannine Thompson, Museum Interpretive Specialist, at (870) 878-6765 or by email: [email protected] or [email protected].
