Today Girl Scouts of the USA are partnering with America’s State Parks on the first-ever National Girl Scouts Love State Parks event, for girls, families, and friends to experience the great outdoors, an integral part of the organization’s all-girl leadership program. Join thousands of girls in hundreds of state parks across the United States to find adventure, explore nature, and learn what Girl Scouts is all about. Registration is required by July 3 by signing up with the Girl Scouts Diamonds council online at www.GirlScoutsDiamonds.org. Right about peak butterfly season, Queen Wilhelmina State Park holds an annual butterfly count. If you would like to participate, here is your chance. Each summer, people of all ages and walks of life join the count nationally to create an annual snapshot of the distribution and abundance of butterflies. The results of the count are published in Butterfly World, which is a journal enjoyed by butterfly lovers and scientists around the globe. All ages and levels of expertise are welcome. We will spend six hours hiking and counting butterflies. Your Girl Scout participation can make a difference. Please bring a sack lunch and plenty of water, and wear sturdy hiking shoes and long pants. Or, if you prefer, purchase lunch in our restaurant. Girls Scouts will have the opportunity to earn several badges: Bugs, Eco-Friends, Animal Habitats, and Outdoor Art Explorer! Fee includes your name published and the North American Butterfly Association Book and Girl Scouts Love State Parks!
