“Free Man in a Slave’s World”
Meeting Place: 1874 Courthouse
2:00 pm - 12:00 am
Historic Washington welcomes our guests for a special
Juneteenth Day weekend living history program, entitled, “Free Man in a Slave’s
World”. This program allows visitors to meet and interact with Gad
Bradley, a Free Man of Color whose occupation was that of blacksmith during the
1850’s. You will learn his story while watching him exercise his skills
at the forge. Visitors will come away with a deeper understanding of the
challenges a “free person of color” faced in antebellum Arkansas. This
immersive program will be offered at 10AM, 2PM, and 4PM on Saturday, June 17th.
