First Day Hike: Prospector Trail

What better way to start the new year than with a hike at Crater of Diamonds State Park! This year's guided First Day Hike will take place on the Prospector Trail located in the southwest corner of the diamond search area. This guided hike will take you around the 1.2 mile gravel path where you will discover history and geology like diamond miners of the past. Guests are asked to gather in the parking lot outside the visitor center to be led to the trailhead by a park interpreter. Though the trail is located adjacent to the search area there will be no diamond searching allowed on January 1 and participants are asked to stay with the group during the hike. Restrooms will be available before and after the hike, all other park facilities will be closed on January 1st and reopen at 8:00a.m. on January 2nd.
