Christmas Bird Count

Join us at Lake Ouachita State Park for our annual Christmas Bird Count on Friday, December 19, 2025.

This event will include a morning bird count within our official count circle, followed by an afternoon count on the lake by boat, weather permitting.

Participants will meet at the Lake Ouachita State Park Visitor Center at 7 a.m. for a brief introduction and route planning before dividing into small groups to carpool along local back roads and through sections of the Ouachita National Forest inside the count circle.

We’ll regroup around lunchtime, and if conditions allow, continue the count by boat. The boat portion is optional, as temperatures on the water can be significantly colder than on land.

Snacks will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch, dress warmly, and pack their favorite bird guide and binoculars.

The event will conclude around 2:30 p.m.
