Archeological Excavation: Guided Walking Tour
Meeting Place: Visitor Center
Adults: $5.00
Children ages 6 - 12: $4.00
Children under 6: Free
Plum Bayou Mounds Archeological State Park will host an archeological excavation during the first two weeks of June, and you’re invited! This is one of the largest and most impressive archeological sites in the Lower Mississippi River Valley. Occupied by Native Americans from about 650 to 1050 AD, this site is home to a group of ancient earthworks that once made up a large ceremonial site. Visitors will join a park interpreter for a guided walking tour of the 3/4-mile Knapp Trail. We’ll make stops along the trail at the excavation units, learn what they are finding, and how it helps us better understand the prehistoric people who lived here!
