19th Annual Red River Heritage Symposium Teachers & Researchers Workshop "Trail of Tears in the Red River Region"
We are offering an all-day teacher and researcher workshop in conjunction with the 19th Annual Red River Heritage Symposium. This workshop will take place on Friday, July 25 with a morning program on Saturday, July 26. Lunch will be provided for both days. Saturday morning of the workshop will include a bus tour, sponsored by the Arkansas State Archives, along the path of the “Fort Towson Road” that the Choctaw Nation took on their way into modern-day Oklahoma. Workshop presenters will include staff from Historic Washington State Park, Arkansas State Archives, Fort Towson Historic Site, and the UALR Sequoyah National Research Center in Little Rock. Sessions will incorporate information on Choctaw removal and "Trail of Tears" topics into curriculum standards for the classroom. We encourage workshop participants to also attend the symposium on Saturday afternoon. Those attending both the workshops and symposium will receive a discounted price of $50. Pricing details are listed below. A total of twelve credit hours will be available for teachers to earn both days of the symposium. Register by July 23.
