This rocky trail begins at the park picnic grounds and winds its way to the top of Pinnacle Mountain. From the top is a spectacular view of Lake Maumelle, the Arkansas River Valley, the Ouachita Mountains and west Little Rock. This is truly a breathtaking view. To return, you must retrace your steps or hike down the rugged East Summit Trail and return via the base trail for a total hike of 2 1/2 miles.

I hiked this yesterday (9/24/12). I am in OK shape but decided to go from the West to the East and back. Total time about 1.25 hours. I considered going on the base trail but decided against it because I wanted to challenge myself.
The trail proved to be a lot of fun! From the parking lot on the West side, you're into the woods in 50 yards. Loved the balance, a strenuous climb with no technical requirements. Just wish it had been a little longer on both ascents, but you can't make the mountain bigger. Also very accessible, saw lots of people young and old, with dogs
The view at the top from both sides of the saddle was amazing! Panoramic vistas of the Maumelle river and surrounding countryside. Go to both sides of the peak to get the full picture.
The hardest part for me was the descent from the West to the East. I was more worried about turning my knee(s) or ankle(s), since the descent on that side was more difficult. I did squats this morning and felt the climb in my right knee. This is probably not a good place to conduct a trail run (at least for me) due to the high volume of rocks.
I look forward to going back in a month or so when hopefully the leaves are turning colors.
