Arkansas State Park staff present over 30,000 programs annually, showcasing Arkansas's fascinating history and beautiful natural resources. Guided walks, lake tours, historic site tours, campfire programs, hay rides, storytelling, living history, and workshops are just some of the types of Arkansas activities offered year-round.
Geocache Tour
Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park
Geocachers will enjoy taking this self-guided, 15 point, virtual cache tour of Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park. The total walking distance is a little over one mile. Depending on geocaching experience level, you should allow 45 minutes to two hours to complete the tour. The coordinate for the first point is N 35° 58.988 W 094° 18.631. Please remember, by policy, geocaches can only be placed by park employees at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park.
Guided Tours and Programs
Parkin Archeological State Park
With advance notice, park interpreters can work with your group or family to schedule special guided tours and programs. Explore the Northern Ohio School and/or the prehistoric Indian village and experience history coming to life. Special programs can also include guided tours of the museum, weapons demonstrations, animal fur programs, artifact explanations, and more. Contact the park for further details and reservations.
Battlefield Walking Tour
Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park
Take a walk along the Prairie Grove ridge from the visitor center to the Borden House where the heaviest local fighting occured during the Civil War. A guide will offer details of the conflict, point out where significant events happened, and answer your questions along the way. Daily tours start from the Hindman Hall Museum at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tours last about one hour.
Historic House Tour
Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park
Every day that the park is open, you can enjoy a guided tour through the historic Morrow and Latta houses, starting from Hindman Hall, at 9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., or 3:30 p.m. The Morrow House was a Confederate headquarters prior to the Civil War battles of Pea Ridge and Prairie Grove. The Latta House belonged to John and Jane Latta, who arrived in Arkansas Territory in 1834 and raised 12 children. Tour fee includes access to Hindman Hall Museum and park videos.
Self-Guided Driving Tour
Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park
This tour provides dramatic background and stories as the route directs your drive along the battlefield. Pick up information at the visitor center. Tours can be taken year-round from 8 a.m. until one hour after dark. An audio CD tour is also available to enhance your drive. These must be obtained during visitor center operating hours. Contact the park for further information.

Ozark Folk Center State Park
The Ozark Folk Center's Homespun Gift Shop features music, craft, and garden items from the Ozark Mountain region. Selected hand-made items and specials are also available online at www.ozarkfolkcenter.com.
"Unearthed Treasures of Washington" Exhibit
Historic Washington State Park
Take a look at some of the interesting archeological items that have been discovered under the direction of the Arkansas Archeological Survey at Washington over the past 30 years. See what we have learned from what our ancestors left behind at the 1874 Courthouse. This exhibit is part of the Arkansas Archeological Month celebration.
Sunset Lake Tours
Lake Chicot State Park
Discover the unique history of the area, watch for wildlife, and enjoy a sunset on the largest oxbow lake in North America. If water levels permit, we will explore the cypress swamp. These cruises are offered most Thursdays through Saturdays and all holiday weekends. Start times vary. Reservations are required.
Homeschoolers' Day Camp (ages 7-10)
Lake Ouachita State Park
This camp for kids ages 7-10 will get your child excited about nature with a variety of hands-on activities, animal programs, hikes, games, crafts and more. Reservations are required and space is limited. Contact the park for more details.
