PARIS--Mount Magazine State Park's new 60-room mountain lodge with restaurant, conference center, and enclosed pool, and 13 park cabins are taking shape while their construction continues on the bluff of 2,753-foot Mount Magazine, Arkansas's highest mountain. According to State Parks Director Greg Butts, these exciting new facilities are slated to open in spring 2006 on May 1. Lodge and cabin reservations, and conference arrangements, for 2006 can be made now by calling the park at 1-877-665-6343.

Mount Magazine State Park is one of the 51 state parks administered by the State Parks Division of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. The park is located on 2,234 acres of National Forest lands atop Mount Magazine through a special use permit from the USDA Forest Service.

Sporting a rustic-style design featuring heavy timbers, wood, and stone, Mount Magazine State Park Lodge will stretch along the bluff at the site of the former
U.S. Forest Service lodge that was destroyed by fire in 1971. The lodge will be comprised of a three-wing complex that will feature guest rooms, a restaurant and conference center, and administrative offices. It will include a grand lobby, indoor swimming pool, fitness center, and gift shop. Each guest room will offer a sweeping view from the mountaintop of the Petit Jean River Valley and Blue Mountain Lake. Many will feature private balconies and spa tubs.

Also spaced along the bluff and affording the same spectacular view will be 13 fully-equipped cabins ranging from one-, two- and three-bedroom designs featuring kitchens, wood-burning fireplaces, and outdoor porches with hot tubs.

To reach Mount Magazine State Park from Paris, travel one mile south on Ark. 109, then go southeast on Scenic Hwy. 309 for 17 miles; or from Havana, travel 12 miles north on Scenic Hwy. 309.
