Grady Spann, a 18-year veteran of Arkansas State Parks, has been named Region V Supervisor for Arkansas State Parks, according to State Parks Director Greg Butts. Butts noted that Spann has served as Park Superintendent at Ozark Folk Center State Park since 2005.

Butts said as Region V Supervisor, Spann will be responsible for overseeing and directing the supervision of Mount Magazine, DeGray Lake Resort, Ozark Folk Center, Petit Jean, and Queen Wilhelmina State Parks. Spann is transitioning into his new responsibilities and will continue his duties of park superintendent at the Ozark Folk Center through 2011. His new office will be at the Arkansas State Parks headquarters in Little Rock.

According to Greg Butts, “Grady Spann’s extensive experience and abilities will serve the State of Arkansas well as he oversees the operations of the Region V State Parks. He is a talented, proficient park professional exhibiting over 18 years of outstanding service to Arkansas State Parks.” He continued, “Grady is knowledgeable in all areas of park operations, from maintenance to budget preparation and supervision, from human resource development and management to interpretive programming, and from public relations to lodge and restaurant management. He will do an exemplary job managing this lodge region.”

Butts said that because of Spann’s experience, excellent communication and public relation skills and abilities he is well prepared for his Region V responsibilities.

Ozark Folk Center State Park received numerous awards under Spann’s Leadership, including Outstanding Special Event in 2011, Region II Park of the Year and Overall Park of the year in 2011.

Spann states, “I am very excited about this new opportunity to serve as Region V Supervisor and I look forward to working with these five wonderful parks and their staffs. This move will allow Arkansas State Parks to concentrate on lodging and restaurant operations as well as the many other activities and facilities providing our guests a consistently unique experience at each lodge park”.

Spann holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Parks and Recreation from Henderson State University at Arkadelphia, and is a graduate of the Military Intelligence Basic and Advanced Courses, Counterintelligence Course, Combined Arms Service Staff School, Arkansas Law Enforcement Academy, State Park Leadership School, and numerous training programs with Arkansas State Parks.
