Meeting Place: Visitor Center

The Plum Bayou Culture built this unique mound complex over 1,000 years ago. Activities at this ceremonial center may have included games, feasts and other special celebrations. Starting at 4 p.m., visitors can participate in an American Indian tools and weapons demonstration and use weapons similar to the ones used here so long ago. At 5 p.m., the resident archaeologist makes a presentation on how the mounds are arranged to coincide with solar events. Following the presentation, park interpreters lead a guided tour of the mound site to observe the sunset over Mound A.
