A Photographers View of Dardanelle Dam Lake Dardanelle State Park

Admission: Free

Meeting Place: Visitor Center Classroom

The untamed Arkansas River was unpredictable in the early days of settlement in Arkansas. The river would flood, destroying homes and livestock and other items it would dry to a trickle making it impossible for steamboats and barges to travel. The construction of Dardanelle Lock and Dam and 16 other locks and dams along the Arkansas River would help flood control, secure navigation and improve hydroelectric power. Join Cliff Underwood a long time resident of Russellville and known photographer in the visitor center classroom as he takes you back in time before the construction of Dardanelle Lock and Dam and through the days of lock number 10 being constructed.
