On September 22nd, bring friends, family or your favorite group of people out to Petit Jean State Park to take part in the Great Arkansas Cleanup.  We will register people for the event from 8:00 am through 10:00 am on Saturday morning at Pavilion A.  Once registered, participants will go to an assigned area of the park to help pick up litter and keep the park a beautiful place.  Once the Cleanup is done, we will have a cookout lunch at Pavilion A for participants – hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and soft drinks, along with a group photo and some door prizes to be given away.  Please join us and make it a fun day of keeping Petit Jean State Park magnificent and litter-free.  This event is free and open to the public.  For more information, please call 501-727-5441, or visit the park’s website at http://www.petitjeanstatepark.com .

The Senior American Special, October 16th – 18th

Each year, Petit Jean State Park invites a leisure audience, as well as the general public, to a three-day special event featuring scheduled, entertaining programs, short hikes and fun activities amid the scenic beauty of this special place.  The event is called the Senior American Special and will kick off on Tuesday, October 16th with registration and refreshments provided by the Petit Jean Extension Homemakers Club at historic Mather Lodge at 2:00 pm.  On Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm, the park interpreters will present “Another Senior Spectacular Welcome” in the Rec Hall, getting participants reacquainted with friends from past years, meeting first time visitors and taking part in some fun activities to help “break the ice.”  The following Wednesday and Thursday will be filled with scheduled programs ending with a dinner at Mather Lodge and an evening concert at the Rec Hall. This event is free and open to the public.  There will be a charge for the Thursday evening dinner.  Dinner tickets will be available at Mather Lodge during the week of the event.  Call 501-727-6514 for more information.  Please join us for these fun filled days in the fall at Petit Jean.  For more information, please call 501-727-5441, or visit the park’s website at http://www.petitjeanstatepark.com .

Petit Jean State Park’s “CCC Hike and Bike Trail” is Now a Smooth Asphalt Ribbon

As of August, 2012, the CCC Hike and Bike Trail, extending from the park’s camp areas to historic Mather Lodge, is paved.  The project was financed through an Alternative Transportation grant from the Arkansas Highway Department, and the construction was completed by Crow Paving, Inc. of Morrilton, Arkansas.  The renovated trail is 10 feet across with 2 feet shoulders of gravel or, in the historic CCC field, grass sod.  The CCC Hike and Bike Trail was designed to offer a safe and scenic alternative to using Highway 154 for traveling to and from Mather Lodge for walkers and bicyclists.  Park visitors who bike the trail should remember to travel at safe speeds and offer right of way to slower traffic and pedestrians.  The trail motto is “Please Use Good Trail Manners.”  It’s a great walking and biking trail.  Please come and see for yourself!
