Get Ready for Music in the Parks
September will be a great month for going to an Arkansas State Park and enjoying all kinds of music so get your calendar out and make a date. Folk, Bluegrass, Jazz, Gospel, Classical…something for everyone!
September 4th & 5th –
Start off the month with A Tribute to Grandpa Jones September 4th and 5th! You might remember Grandpa from the 70’s television show Hee Haw. Grandpa Jones and the Jones Family have been longtime supporters of the Ozark Folk Center State Park. Don’t miss this yearly tribute to the man, the music and the humor.
As part of the Tribute to Grandpa Jones the park will be hosting two celebrity concerts. At 7 pm Friday night, September 4th, come hear Jesse “Mandolin Man” McReynolds. More information is available here.
To close out the tribute the park is hosting none other than Kathy Mattea at 7 pm Saturday night, September 5th. Kathy Mattea is a Grammy Award winning songwriter and vocalist and has won CMA female vocalist trophies in 1989 and 1990. Tickets are available online here.
September 12th –
Ready for a great fall music festival? Well get out to the Pinnacle of Music Festival at Pinnacle Mountain State Park at 10 am Saturday the 12th. Bluegrass from New Generation and Jazz Guitar by Ted Ludwig plus more Jazz from Michael Eubanks and Milton Jackson. Contact the park for more information.
September 19th –
Here is a special setting for you and your family. Bring a blanket or a chair to Sunset Point for “Brass in the Clouds” at beautiful Mount Nebo State Park and enjoy a beautiful sunset serenade as you gaze out over the Arkansas River Valley. The Arkansas Tech University Brass Choir will entertain with live music as the sun sinks over the mountains.
September 26th –
Enjoy an afternoon outdoors filled with the uplifting sound of gospel music at Lake Chicot State Park near Lake Village, AR. Gospel Fest activities and events are held throughout the day including a fashion show, basketball tournament, cake walk, walk-a-thon, and Southern fried chicken cook-off. If you are looking for something for your child who is 12 and under, try our kid’s area where there are lots of games, moon walks, and other activities.
